Clifton “Cliff” Lighty is an accomplished American songwriter, producer, and vocalist whose work helped shape the sound of contemporary R&B during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Known for his soulful songwriting, melodic instincts, and behind-the-scenes creativity, Lighty has collaborated with some of the genre's most respected artists, contributing to records that achieved both commercial success and lasting influence.
Lighty began his professional music career as a member of The Flex, a vocal group formed with his brother Darren Lighty and Eric Williams. The trio was discovered by legendary producer Marley Marl, providing vocals on recordings for artists including LL Cool J, Heavy D & the Boyz, Craig G, and Intelligent Hoodlum.
Although the group never released its own album, the experience opened the door for Cliff and Darren to establish themselves as respected songwriters and studio musicians.
Throughout his career, Lighty has earned songwriting, production, and vocal credits on projects by artists such as Jaheim, Donell Jones, Ruff Endz, Angie Stone, and Next.
His contributions include work on notable R&B hits such as “U Know What's Up” by Donell Jones featuring Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and “No More” by Ruff Endz, along with numerous tracks from Jaheim's acclaimed recordings.
